In Poland, there are all these mentioned departments of biotechnology. In the area of industrial biotechnology one should focus on:

• replacement of traditional non-biological processes for industrial bioprocesses and receive the resulting products with high added value, such as biopharmaceuticals, new biocatalysts, specific chemicals and intermediates for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, next generation food products, and pesticides;
• manufacture of biomaterials (eg biodegradable plastics) and biofuels from renewable raw materials;
• bioremediation.
• Application of modern biotechnology in agriculture enables:
• obtaining plants resistant to pathogens, pests and abiotic stress factors;
• obtaining an increased yield and high quality agri-food production;
• introduction of transgenic plants for production of vaccines and recombinant proteins as well as renewable resources;
• production of plants for industrial biotechnology sector.

The use of biotechnology in medicine, offers opportunities for rapid development of molecular diagnostics based inter alia on immunodiagnostic tests or tests based on specific amplification of DNA, and also allows rapid progress in the field of modern and effective methods of treatment and prevention of various diseases.
